Sea of Thieves: A Pirate's Life - Dead Man's Grotto
Every environment in Sea of Thieves: A Pirate's Life is the result of a huge collaborative effort from the Rare team.
I worked on A Pirate's Life for about 6 months across three of its levels, taking them from design whiteboxes to a visually finished state.
Dead Man's Grotto is one of the very first environments the player gets to experience in A Pirate's Life, the first tale of the series in this update. Not only is it an homage to the existing theme park ride, for many players it also serves as one of their first experiences with Sea of Thieves as a whole, so a lot of care was put into making this a smooth and straightforward experience to lead you forward until you reach Sailor's Grave, working closely with designers along the way.
I took the majority of the cave system from design whitebox to finished art, using the existing library of assets from other Sea of the Damned environments and other puzzle elements from the game.
